I am ashamed to say I still cannot get a consistent sight picture. My friend just bought a brand new USP 40 Compact and I shot 5/5 DEA dots at 12 yards. This is something I have a hard time doing with my M9A1. The sights really put the voodoo hex on me.
I am embarrassed to say that my 3 game-gun Steyrs have fiber optic posts and notch rear sights, and the carry/house gun has 3 dot night sights. Just put a fiber optic on the most recent purchase, last night.

How easy/hard was it for you to get the sights changed out?
Did you do it yourself, as it sounds like it from your post.
And hows about a picture please. I think you had posted one before, but I dont see it now.
Alright, dern it. I'll try to get around to taking some pics. After all the work of shooting pics, loading onto comp, cropping, loading onto website, I expect to hear, "Why yes, it looks remarkably similar to that shown on the XD picture." Because, a Dawson fiber optic sight for an XD that is placed in a Steyr DOES look very much like a Dawson fiber optic sight for an XD that is placed in an XD.
No, wait! Thru the miracle software app known as "Microsoft Paint", I have created a work of art sure to satisfy all, without the tedious need to set up camera, backdrop, lighting, get in the gunsafe, download, upload, etc. Behold the wonder:
Now, is that not the greatest thing since a syringe tube of TW25b, or what? I tell ya, sometimes I even astound myself. If you want to throw coins (or tomatoes), send them to my agent BigTaco, at BigTaco, c/o Swedish Gay Porn Shop and Delicatessen, 940 Bubits Rd, #MA1, Cedar Falls, Idaho.
I believe that you can buy plain black fixed sights from PT/MMC in sets or as singles. My set ups are PT rear sight and a Dawson fiber optic front blade that is made for XD. I do not modify the gun at all. I do have to fit the sight by removing metal from the bottom of the sight. This unvolves laying metal file down on a bench, and rubbing the bottom of the sight's dovetail on the file. I think I removed at least .020", just be careful and test as you go, and expect to "file fer a while". The .180" height works with the PT rear sight on my .40s in all ammo, I needed to go to the .205" height for my 9mm with 147 gr ammo. You could probably send it to Dawson, but they take 6-8 weeks to get to stuff.
So far as I currently know, there is nothing that will fit the rear sight dovetail in the Steyr, and no way to chop an existing rear sight to work. I think PT is the only option there, maybe Trijicon

When I clicked I got the spiral loading window. After watching it a while I started feeling sleepy and could put pins thru my hand without feeling pain.
So my question is this: How do I shoot guns with other sights? Since I bought the Steyr, I've gotten used to the trap sights and can't shoot a lick with 3 dot, Heinie or anyting else!
Actually, is this a problem?
One more thing: The illustration you provided for a proper sight picture illustrates the ONLY shortcoming with the sight, that being difficulty in levelling the weapon on target. It's just a bit difficult to line up the tip of the front sight with the top of the rear traps. I've always thought that a two tone sight as in your illustration would aid in this.
My Steyr M9-A1 was purchased because of these innovative sights and it's my baby! I love it!
Same concept.
Spaces between the edges of the front sight and the rear sight should be of equal distance; and the top of the front sight should be at the same level as the top of the rear sight.
The difference is that the edges of the sights are slanted on the Steyr and rectilinear on other guns.
