A book called Valentine's Resolve by E. E. Knight has the main character carrying that rifle on the cover. It's even mentioned by name within.

That's pretty cool, I have to find that book.

It's kinda in the middle of the series - You'd be lost. Start with Way of the Wolf. It's a really well-written post-apocalyptic survival series.
