Hello all, I’ve been lurking around for a while and have seen several variations of what I’m about to ask but with no concrete answers.

I have a Steyr C9-A1 that’s marked Trussville, AL. This gun started out alright but soon began to eject erratically. After about 50 rounds it absolutely locked up with a failure to fire and a live round in the chamber. The only way to remove the round was to beat the back of the grip with a mallet while planting the muzzle against a table.

I can’t seem to make sense of this issue; it’s happened three times now. I’ve been shooting S&B 115 grain ball through it and have never had a single issue with this ammo with any of my other pistols. I could understand if the gun cycled and an empty case was stuck but why would a live round get so horrendously jammed up?

Each time this happens is the same; fire a round, it ejects, slide closes and another round chambers, attempt to fire and nothing. Slide absolutely jammed up but slightly out of battery, beat it open and live round will show a faint indent on the primer at 12 o’clock.

Contact Steyr HQ in Alabama and speak with Jeff Reece about the problem.
