Have you heard about about Sheriff Joe Arpaio and the operation he runs in Maricopa County, Ariz.? He's getting so famous some of his exploits are circulating the 'net via emails. To begin with, he moved all his prisoners out of the jail into tents and turned the jail into an animal shelter. Townhall writer Jackie Gingrich Cushman decided to talk to the man himself to see if the legend matches up to the facts and penned Too Good, but True: A Sheriff Enforces the Law May Sheriff Joe's tribe increase! Hey, let's start a "Draft Joe for President" campaign.
Yea, he's great sometimes. Other times, not so good. Here in Buckeye, AZ he local paper can't get the county crime reports by e-mail anymore like the rest of the entire state. They have to drive 40 miles to downtown Phoenix, file a request for information before noon and then pick it up at the end of the day. Why? Because the paper published an article showing how Joe has been hiring his relatives, friends and contributors to his campaign (sheriffs are voted into office here) for high paying jobs in the Dept that do little or no work. On the great side, he's trained an entire special group to do nothing but arrest and help ICE deport illegals. We also have a special phone # citizens can call and report illegals, and unlike ICE, the SD will show up quickly and arrest them. 8)
