Had to say goodbye to my friend today. she was killed by a drunk driver (on a boat!) last weekend. The drunk asshole (with a no-drink probation clause already on record) in a speed boat ran their small I/O boat over from behind, she died almost instantly we think/hope (closed casket tells you something of the extent of her injuries). Her fiancee and his family members (including a 7 year old) on the boat survived with injuries. She was due to be married next month. Had to talk to her parents and fiancee tonight.....and there are absolutly no words that work in such a case. All I could do was say "I'm so sorry" as i cried with them. Next to the death of my grandfather, this was the hardest funeral i have ever been to....no one should be dying at age 31 with only 5 weeks until their wedding. She was a wonderful person for anyone to know....i honestly can't think of anyone who didn't like her....It is unreal to think i will never get to talk to her again. Life does go on, and we appreciate the time we have even more as a result of such things. So friends, take a moment to think of your friends and loved ones. if you haven't seen them or talked to them in a while, make a point to do so, they may be gone, or you may be gone, before you ever get that chance again. Hug your wife, girlfriend, dog, cat, whatever, don't wait until it is too late.....Make the most of the time you have. And a personal request....if you are going to drink, by all means drink, and have a great time.....but don't drive....not anything........call a cab, call a friend, hell...call me!.....but don't drive! no one should die like this.
