some serial numbers have been affected by this. 30xxx-35xxx i believe. the best thing to do is to be sure that the recoil spring guide rod is in line with the barrel. which is to say side to side. i just flip the slide upside down and look straight down it enduring that i have equal overhangl left and right.

if you put the slide on with the guide rod off to one side or the other, you'll ram it into those tabs. this is a great way to break them.

one way to test if your slide will slam into your tabs is to put a little dab of nail polish on the tabsfacing forward and cycle the slide by hand pulling back as hard as you can. if your slide doesn't pull paint, you can feel pretty sure it won't take your tabs out.

i have posted numerous times that i shoot mine all day long with the tabs broken and it's no biggie.

    good luck
