Hello SteyrClub! (And people new to Steyr/holsters/firearms!)
So (finally!) I have found a company that makes an IWB (Inside Waist Band) holster for my C9 Steyr. And more specifically, one that accepts my Viridian C5L laser attached. (You can get it molded for non-lazer/flashlights, of course) Since I got the holster a little over a week/week and a half ago, I have changed from my Intratec CAT-9 to my Steyr for EDC (Every Day Carry).
After day in and day out use/borderline abuse I can give my solid recommendation for Cleveland's Holsters.
In my unprofessional opinion, this is some top notch work. I easily can say that this rivals the amazing quality that Blade-Tech produces. (And I have my Blade-Tech for OWB (Outside Waist Band) use. It also is simply a great product.)
First thing I notice was the (Horse hide) leather. A much different feel from the cow leather I have worn in and out for years from riding chaps to leather jackets and accoutrements. Stiff yet flexible, less "porous" is the best way to describe it. It was for the first 2 days kind of noticeable that I had changed from my previous EDC holster to Cleveland's because the size difference and "hard feel" of the holster I had been using. Obviously carrying my Steyr was a serious upgrade in size and weight from my Intratec, but with this holster (versus my Blade-Tech) "Comfort" is the best word I can come up with. (Yes, comparing OWB and IWB is a bit like apples and oranges, but both are comfortable! I just prefer not to profile so much while Conceal Carrying. Go figure, right?)
The second thing is the Kydex. A nice, solid Kydex molding specifically for my firearm. (Again, just like Blade-Tech!) It fits like a glove, first time, every time. It just has that "Made by someone who cares" feel to it. I akin this to cooking: You can tell when the person who made your food loves what they are doing. The quality shines right through. Well as much as I can tell you from my untrained eye, this just has that feel to it.
Third thing: The screws. I admit, I was leery on this one. In my package was some lock-tight and instructions. Folks, LISTEN TO THEM!
I have had to tighten my screws almost daily to keep it where I want it. I specifically have not used it because I wanted what I felt was a decent time to use and review this holster, and I plan on locking my screws down later today. When he says "You WILL lose a screw" he means it. (I have not, but was close) But just a quick turn of a screw and it retained its retention and fit just fine.
Cleveland's holsters boasts "49 different positions to CANT your firearm" and that is really, REALLY nice. I took a couple of hours moving it up and down finding the right carry for me. The clips that attach from the waistband are solid. Once attached and adorned, they stick solid. To adjust I had to really work at moving it back and forth. So it is nice to have it stick and not move. If you have to pull your firearm for practice or for protection, it feels solid coming out of the holster and is smooth. It takes a small bit of practice to slide back in because of my Viridian attachment, other than that it goes well for putting it away, nice firm and audible (not loud) "click" of it fitting into position.
I have logged about 10 miles of walking with this holster. (As in straight walking for health, not just running around town all day stuff) so it has been through a lot of hot weather and a lot of movement. Again, the best review I can give is its comfort. I hardly notice it now, and actually have reached back on occasion to remind myself that yes, I did put it on.
Last bit of pride: Not only is this a Wisconsin company it is nice to support local (for me) and national business!
