Hello. I'm new on this forum so thought I'd post something...

Just put my STG-58 back together this afternoon after refinishing it.
Used "Parker" Duracoat, vey close to the original Steyr greenish parker.

A few years ago...

Features including:
- Tapco 4th gen scope mount cover
- IOR 3x25CQB/IL scope
- Docter Sight II+ red dot sight
- Entreprise free float handguard
- Ergo Grip pistol grip
- BR-Tuote reflex suppressor
- 30rd mag (L4A2)
- smaller stuff I can't remember right now

Any other STG-58 owners here? Looking at the older mails I noticed someone asking but didn't get many answers?

That thing rocks! Definitely one of the coolest things I've ever seen on this board :D. Any chance of getting us a video with sound of you firing it with and without the suppressor? I'm just curious...

Also, I've never seen an optic like that - can you explain a little more about it? Thanks for the awesome pictures!!!!

Mine's an STG kit built on an Imbel receiver.
Call me a purest but I like the factory look for an FAL.

Still, your looks pretty good. They are a hoot to shoot

I'll see if I can do something about that video, but I'm not promising anything.
Well, the IOR is just a 3x25 scope with an illuminated reticle (for low light, not daylight).
The Docter Sight is mounted on the IOR's side rail so that I only have to tilt the rifle about 10 degrees and I can use the red dot, without changing cheek weld. Very fast, much faster than on top of the scope, at least for me.

I do have all the original parts so I could revert to the original look if I wanted, one day...

Thanks for the compliments, guys.

By popular demand: 0.7 Mb WMV video here

First a couple of shots without the suppressor, then the rest with it (well you should be able to see and hear that much )
Ammo is South African, in other words supersonic. Didn't have any .308 subsonics. They aren't much fun in a FAL as the rifling twist doesn't allow very heavy bullets, and you can't make it cycle with subsonics (like you can an AK).
The suppressor pretty much eliminates the muzzle bang, but the supersonic bullet is pretty loud in its own right. Also the backstop (earth bank) is only 30 meters away and the slap of the bullet into it is very loud too. And there are similar earth banks on each side within about 50 meters so a lot of the bullet flight noise is reflected back from them, adding to the overall noisyness.
Without all the sound reflecting surfaces it would about safe to shoot without hearing protection, like in a forest or such place with lots of sound absorbing stuff, instead of reflecting.
With the suppressor it sounds a lot like a smallbore rifle without a silencer.
