This is my first time posting on here and in the near future I might get myself an AUG and I was wondering for example if I were to get a old A1 model would I be able to take the receiver out of the furniture and drop it into current production A3 furniture? Because I like the looks of the old scopes better than the new ones and thought I would get a A1 and then put it in A3 furniture with the bolt release or the NATO furniture would that work? Or are the receivers different between the A1, A2 and A3?


Another question I have is another rifle I was checking out to as an alternative to the Steyr AUG is the MSAR STG-556. I know that most of the parts on those are unique and will not interchange with Steyr's but what parts can be swapped around and do OEM AUG mags work on them?

Thanks. Yeah I contacted him as well and he said that they should be able to be swapped with no problems. And in regards to me mentioning the STG-556's I watched some videos on Youtube today and yeah I will stay clear of those. The videos I watched they were constantly jamming. So Steyr or nothing. Thanks again for the reply!

The generations of the AUG are all basically the same , as for operation takedown and parts lists . until you get into the fine points of the A1 A2 A3
1st. N0 you can not take a A1 ( STG77) And put it in a New A3 or A3M1 stock.
2. You can take a A3M1 and A3 the( SA ) and Enter change them .
3. The A2 were military EU ONLY, This is how we got the A3 SA in the USA.

It's the Receiver that makes the difference and the trigger pack for the years of the AUG.

Barrels from Any of the Aug's can be used from A1 to A3M1. You're accessories also must be model specific, A3 Sa rails don't work on A3M1.

Thanks for the info. Since I am more of an AR and AK person I have alot to learn about AUG's. Speaking of which if I were to get a current production AUG with an OEM magwell if I were to get the NATO furniture and trigger pack as well I could switch back and forth between OEM and STANAG mags right? If I drop the receiver in one or the other with the right trigger pack right?

No. Buy a NFA Class 3 Aug
