    :D

    Hi all
Just picked up my CDNN M9 A1, COM build date (Oct 05) and took it to the range for a quick 100 rds.

Didn't clean it before, just broke it down to see if it was gummy or not, it wasn't.

I shot 5 rds a time at different targets, I could group three shots, with two flyers, had a couple of them in the same hole.

For me, the POA, is NE of POI, so I'm hitting SW of where I believe I'm aiming.

I don't know if it's the trigger or the sights yet, I have a nice shooting .45, so I have to get used to this trigger. and for the time being, aiming to the right and above of where I want to hit.

There is very little recoil, not having shot too many 9mm's, I don't know if this is just typical 9mm recoil, or the steyr 111 effect.

I love the grip, it points very well, and the front site is easy to pick up for me.

I had one FTE, but believe it was a squib round, as it didn't even get out of the slide. it was just out of the chamber enough to wedge itself between the barrle and the slide. the next round wasn't stripped forward in the magazine.

Now to by 250 rds to practice with.

    Best Regards and have fun

Check out the handhold suggested in one of the forum stickies. When I made that simple change I went from Virgin to Porn Star.

I took my new M9 to the range on my lunch break twice this week. The first time I ran 2 boxes of WWB 15 gr. JHP through it, with a FTE mid-way in the 1st box. After that, no problems. The 2nd session (2 boxes of American Eagle 115gr. FMJ) went well, as the gun felt like it was smoother in operation. I can't tell you how much fun it is to blast 2 boxes of ammo during lunch. I'm really getting to like this gun.

Hi, welcome to the Club 8)

IMHO, it was probably just a break-in FTE.
if it doesn't happen again in another 200 rounds, I'd forget about it.

Got my 250 rounds now, so next stop is the range when I get the time.

I've reviewed the grip post, and it seems that's how I was holding it, so I'll have to experiment more with why I was hitting down and to the left.

Won't be this weekend though, too busy. I know you're all very anxious to find out why I can't aim at what I hit, so I'll keep you posted.

Which hand are you shooting with? Down and to the left suggests to me you might be a lefty, like moi.

It could be your trigger-finger position. I had gotten into the bad habit of using the joint between the pad and second joint of my finger before a better pistol shot than I suggested I shift to the center of the pad. Works for me.

    The Steyr is soft shooting.
If you have not tried shooting from a supported position you might do that to see if the sights are off.

Thanks, BB! I do have a question, though. The spent case ejection is right back toward me about half the time. In fact, I've had a couple of cases hit me in the head, and one landed in my shirt pocket. Being new to a Steyr pistol, the gun's ejection pattern can be disconcerting. Is this a common occurrence?

Happens to once or twice every time I go to the range but some of those may be bouncing off the seperators and from what I have read it's supposed to lessen after you break in the weapon...I've got 600 or so rounds through mine and it is still happening though....but again it may be bouncing off the seperators....I know that does not account for 100% of them though as it does not happen that often with other guns I shoot...

Had a chance to get back to the range, another 250 rounds thru the gun.

One FTE, same kind of jam, not a stove pipe, just up and out of the chamber (parallel to it) to prevent the slide from coming forward for the new round.

I supported myself by leaning on the side of the shooting cubical and solved my issue, (for the POAv POI) it shoots very well, I can put 30 rounds into a 3"x4" rectangle with out a much trouble. (that was all I was looking for, I"m not trying to get a 1" group, nor do I think I could) Free hand I would have at least two that would miss the box.

Had my 11 year old shoot it too, he loves it, and prefers it to the .380 Makarov that he sometimes shoots. He's not to familiar with lots of site pictures (just airsoft stuff), and he really liked the sites.

Regarding the ejection pattern, when I was watching his shots, the casings would do one of two things.

either eject reward at an angle to clear his right shoulder. or come straight back over his head, some went higher, and would therefore not go over his head, but come down on top of his hat.

Most went over his shoulder though. I didn't keep track of all his ejections, so this is just my impression from the one time I paid a little more attention to where the spent casings were flying.

Bottom line, I'm not worried about the sites, they're fine, it's my shooting, and I'm still befuddled by the way the FTEs are happening.

Total round count is 350 with 2 FTE.
