Hello everyone! I just acquired a new S9-A1 pistol. date code on it appears to be made in 2010. I really love how it feels and excited to take it to the range soon. One thing though is when I did a basic field strip to clean it (bare slide and barrel out) I noticed how the firing pin easily protrudes when I angle it downwards. Is this normal for this model and/or other Steyr series pistols? I checked the recall notice and the serial number is not part of the batch listed. I contacted customer service anyway via their website and they said, "The firing pin is designed to move freely in the slide and will protrude." Just curious. Thanks! Here's a pic.
that's good to know. here's a couple of pics of the internal slide with the firing pin extending out.
Yes, totally normal. When the frame is attached to the slide, mechanisms restrict the movement of the firing pin. Absent of the lower workings, the pin is going to float around a little.
