Hello! Can't believe I haven't found this forum before. I've been an M40 owner for a couple years, fantastic gun... it hasn't had a single failure of any kind. Just put another couple hundred rounds through it last weekend, first time it's been shot in a year.

Anyway, look forward to learning more and contributing to the site... might even convince myself to pick up the new version to keep mine company...

    Glad to have you aboard!!!

Word of advise; Call CDNN right away and get the new Steyr A1 in 9mm or 40SW [or both] right away!!!

They will never be this affordable again!!!

What is the difference between the old M40 and the new A1? Seems like it would be a difficult gun to improve on!

Mostly a more ergonomic grip and the addition of a picatinny rail (the proprietary setup the M40 comes with requires an adapter to attach common lights, etc.). Certain older M's have a recalled trigger group (that is heavier). Some of the newer A1's come with an updated extractor/plunger design, too.
