The House majority Whip, James Clyburn (D-SC) , said in an interview that if the surge was succeeding and Gen. Petraeus came back in September with a positive report, that "would be a real big problem for us".
The last thin veneer that the Congressional Democrat Party opposition is due to an honest difference of opinion, rather than a cold political calculation, has been ripped asunder. Lets see how well the 85% of the mass media who carry water for the left can stifle or spin this disgusting bombshell.

Don't know if any of you read the New York Times online, but yesterday was an extraordinary day. The Baghdad bureau chief, John Burns, reported he sees positive signs everywhere in country that the surge is definitely working. http://hughhewitt.townhall.com/g/ede5e271-ea71-4513-9071-34571f229847

And the Times also published an op-ed piece quoting two foreign policy think-tank experts who have previously opposed the war, titled "A War We Just Might Win" if our politicians will give the surge time to work.

For the Gray Lady to say something good about the war in Iraq is pretty close to Second Coming stuff. Perhaps the "cut and run" party will begin to get the message that while the war is not popular (what war has ever been? Even WWII had the "surrender party") the same polls show the vast majority of Americans don't want to abandon the fight and let the terrorists win.

I think BigTaco hit the nail on the head on this topic a day or two ago when he asked the question, "What will victory in Iraq look like?" Certainly nobody in the Bush administration is answering that question. It's hard to hit a target that isn't even in sight, or even envisioned. I can't answer that question either, but I am sure it does not look like surrender. Best vision of victory I've heard so far was that expressed by "General Patton."
