Mag Choice in M9

3014 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Guest
I intend to get some full-capacity mags for my M9 in the next couple of weeks. I'm trying to decide between getting 14 rd M9 mags or getting 12 rd M40 mags and converting them to 9mm.

I'm having good results with my converted 10 rd M40 mags, even though they lack the stack width limiting grooves present on the M9 mags. Has anybody out there converted some 12 rd M40 mags? Do they feed well? Can you perhaps fit 15 rds in them?

Thanks,

Unless the 12rd M40 mags are a lot cheaper than the full-cap M9 mags, I'd say why bother; just get the factory M9 hi-caps and call it a day.

Just my $.02
I might be in the minority here but I'm not sure about the moded mags. I prefer to stick with factory mags that are designed specifically for each gun. Mostly for safety reasons...

A funny side note:

Jimmythesaint and I went to a local gunshow last weekend and found a vendor selling mags for all types of guns. He wanted $45 for M9 highcaps. When we told him that you could get the 10 rounders for $15 and the highcaps for $30. His response was "someone is selling them for that price? yeah right", and walked away w/o letting us respond like we were insane. I basically had to keep jimmy from jumping the counter and beating him senseless with the CDNN catalog.

Get em' while they are available because you don't want to have to deal with someone like that and pay out the a$$ for them later on.

Most of the magazine sellers at the gunshows are a joke.

Local gun shows....

I don't know where the guys who sell at our shows come from, but I haven't seen anything in years that I would A)trust to buy or B) was anywhere NEAR a reasonable price. I just go to laugh at 'em.....
I would stick with factory mags as well. A gun is almost useless if the magazine is not functioning properly. I just orderd a couple of extra mags from CDNN myself. I expect to have them before I go to the range again.

get the 14 rounders .. same price as the 40's....my 2 cents

I wouldn't have beaten hime with the catalog, just show it to him in a way that his inbreed ass would understand. It's called tough love

Man, now I know what carnies do in the off season!
Thanks, guys, for your input.

I know the M9 mags are the surefire solution, but the modded 10 rd M40 mags have also been totally reliable for me and the the modification only takes a few minutes.

I guess I've got this mental block that says that standard sized 9mm mags should hold at least 15 rds; I was hoping for a little confirmation that the modded M40 mags would do that. I might buy one as a trial and go from there.

FWF I would say use whatever you can get your hands on. I have been using modded mags ever since I got my first Steyr 4 years ago and have had great luck. Now days the cheapest mags are going to be the 10 rounds mags so you could buy the M40 10 rounds mags and save some dough.
