Hey everyone I had a question about the m9-a1 and m9-a2 is the fire control unit housing aluminum?

Someone told me it was either 6061 or 7075 aluminium.. I can't confirm this because I unfortunately don't own one yet but the thing looks so cool I really want one..

Anyway I figured you guys would be the best to ask and would know that..

Also from reading and looking it looks like the fire control unit for the a1 and a2 are the same? It's just the grip/frame and mag that whete different.. is this true? When I look at all the trigger parts from pics outside of the housing they are identical and look 100% compatible.

And a unrelated question to the trigger.. if I got a m9 if I also somehow hunted down a L9 slide coukd it run on a M9 frame? Assuming the "dust cover" (part that holds the recoil rod on the slide is long enough?

Thanks for your time and I appreciate the information you all have.

Lots of stuff, L9 slide will lock onto a M9 but there is not a extended length on the dust cover so the spring will show on the slide. I used a pic of a C9 with the slide to emphasize it, however it will not be this bad. I still need to try and swap the fcu as they do like the same, but I was told they are not, which makes sense since then you could use a A1 fcu on a A2 frame and have no serial number, altough most of the new A2 have a serial number on the frame now as well. Only the initial batch of L9A2 had it only on the fcu. Mag is the same, just the base plate changed so A1 mags will fit into the A2, but not the other way around. Most changes are the frame but the extractor was redesigned on the A2 and the slide internals are slightly different however a A1 slide will fit and work on a A2 frame. Sliver/fde is A1, black is A2.

Serializing anything is only of use in the rare occasion something stolen resurfaces from the black market, but since BATF NEVER return stolen property, not that useful then.
Serialized modern automatics are pointless from a law enforcement angle since we have had background checks, so tracing weapons was rendered pointless, and you can mix and match parts on anything but revolvers.
When I had a simple true double action worked on at the factory, they replaced everything except the serialized grip, slide and magazine.
The barrel is not only new, but two generations later in design.

You can simply run a longer barrel, can't you?

Okay so from what I'm gathering is besides the looks of the frame from the a1 to a2 small stuff may have been changed to improve things like the ejector or possibly the firing pin shape or spring ect..

like what tonfoglio did.. for example people where putting the firing pins upside down.. and it mattered because it would get hung up like that.. So they changed it and I believe even did a optional recall now it's impossible to put in wrong.. instead of having right angles on it.. It's now smooth and round like a cylinder all the way around..

So it sounds like besides dust cover length the C M and L are all compatible..

I also bet that the fcu for the A1 and A2 are also exactly the same.. we probably hear they are not because people assume they're not.. because of the frame try serial number shenanigans.. however the chances of someone getting a frame and a fcu intentionally without a serial number on either.. to do and stuff.. It's unlikely to find one of those let alone 2.. And it's much easier for some idiot to just not care if they have a number on the firearm or not.. or if they are already doing this for bad stuff to just remove the number..

Anyway my last question is this.. if you had a C40.. could you swop the fcu from the 40sw into a C9?

I believe you've all answered everything else and I really do appreciate it.. thanks again.

I believe while they changed the slide to a degree outside of the ejector, all the parts are interchangeable, but I could be wrong as while I have taken both down all the way, I haven’t done them next to each other other then the ejector. That said I do use a A1 slide on a A2 often without any issue since I like the deltapoint cut into it. I’ll try to swap them this weekend as long as the kids give me a moment of time. It was my understanding the fcu was the same from when I removed both of them, but Tn Steyr has told me otherwise and he is a Steyr armorer so I would take his word over mine. Again from my understanding as I do not have a Steyr 40 right now the fcu is the same, the only change is in the slide opening for the barrel. Guys here spoke about using the two interchangeably M9-A1 or M40-A1 slides - Will they fit and work on an...

Hey so I just read back through our whole conversion.. I noticed the one thing we did y cover was if the trigger housing was aluminium or not? Do one of you guys know or can one of you find out by looking for me?

Thanks again. I appreciate it.
