Hello Steyr Club,

I have a latest generation Steyr M9-A1 that I bought brand new. I have always thought it was particularly hard to rack/chamber/cock, etc.

My friend has an identical steyr and when handling his I did notice that in comparison his was a lot easier to rack the slide back.

I thought this might have been a break in issue or something, but as I have put close to 1,000 rounds through it and have not noticed a difference I am not sure.

Is this one of those things where every gun is slightly different and I should not worry about it or is there something strange going on? I have cleaned and lubed it after every range visit.

If anyone has experienced anything similar would love to hear about it, thanks.

Did you try to rack the slide without the recoil spring? Do you have the same issue, like slide is catching on something and you need a substantial force to overcome that?

I find that my S40-A1 is difficult to rack. I think it's because the recoil spring is heavy.
