Greetings shipmates,
I just cancelled an order for SA XD40 for a M40-a1. I went to work today and started surfing 'bout the steyr m-a1. Now, I read a lot of unreliability issues regarding the m9, what about the M40-A1? anybody have any problems with it???

Just curious...

oh Madecov?....where are you?

Madecov is the only guy i know of on here with the 40a1 and a M40.....he's probably going to have the best info for you.

Me, i've got an M9, probably about 800 rd through it with 2 FTEs...pretty sure i was guilty of limp wristing one of if not both of them.

i have read many things about extracto probs, but from what i have read on here, the a1 series has a slightly revised extractor...Steyr probably addressed the problem.

regardless of what i can tell you, Madecov will have more info for you on the subject.
Yup,
I own both versions in 40.
My M has more rounds through it than the A1. I have around 400 through the A and maybe 700 through the M.
Both have been 100%. I did have one instance of the M locking up, but I think it was ammo related.

The A has slightly better ejection in that the brass goes out and to the right rear better than the M. My M was throwing one out each magazine right between the eyes but this stopped at about 450 rounds.

Both models are now my duty weapons. Love em.

I concur. Just shot 100 rounds thru my M40-A1 and it was perfecto!! I shoot much better with it than my Glock.
Ergo's on the A1 are absolutely incredible

thanks for the info

.... happy to say that in my 500 rounds with it... I've got no issues with it except with using a very cheap ammo with a very very soft lead. The lead was so soft the only after 5 rounds you can no longer see the land and groove of the barrel but it went though 100 rounds anyway with one FTB and FTE. This was probably due to the barrel getting so thight due to the lead builtup. Washed it up with 100 rounds of FMJ the next day and no failures.

...our local SWAT team is using an Steyr M9. It's their assault pistol.
