Looking at the Springfield XD or a Glock 30. Which one would you go for and why? Read very good things about both.

1911's are out of the question, as I already have one.

Dont worry, not looking to replace my M9 as my CCW, just want to expand the collection.

I own a G30 and just did a trigger job on my friend's new G30. (pretty easy).
If the 30 fits your hand you'll love it.....very accurate and I think good size to carry. I've modified the full size magazines as back up mags for 13 rounds each. 10 round in the pistol. Recoil is very mild with double recoil spring setup. The trigger is not as good as the XD pistols IMO. But with a little trigger work as I did and any experienced Glock shooter friend can do, you'll find the Glock trigger very nice. It's easy to fix, tear down, replace parts, and with the famous shoot in any envirment reputation, its my main choice to carry. Wish I could say my Steyr m40, but its a little finicky and that is my second choice. I think the finish on the XD is not as tough as the tennifer on the Glock, if that matters.

I've got the XD and love it. The grip is only marginally thicker than the XD40 and the XD9 although it is a bit longer. The gun is very accurate and reliable. The finish on all the XD45's is melonite which, by all accounts, is a different name for tennifer. Rumor is that all the XD's will eventually get the melonite finish. Its a great alternative to the Glock and the trigger is much better than any stock Glock trigger I've ever tried.

Let me just say that I own an XD .45acp, and LOVE it! It is accurate, reliable, and powerfull, (Something shared by the glock...) but it is also comfortable to hold and shoot! (something NOT shared by the glock, imho.)

Could you post pictures of the M40 and the G30? I've been trying to get an idea of the size comparison for a while.

I haven't taken the time to learn how to do that yet. But I can tell you the G30 is thicker overall, larger grip, maybe slightly longer overall, and definately heavier......

30! I have the 30 & 21, but the 30 is BY FAR my favorite. I sold my XD once I bought a Steyr M9. The 30 is awesome and almost favored over my 1911 Kimber. 10+1 in a compact is great and had mild recoil in the 30. Shoot both and decide for yourself.
