Is my Steyr a Pro Hunter #2 ???

I just found this thread after buying a Boyd's stock for my pro hunter 2, it required alot of fitting to clear the barrel and I'm at a loss as far as magazine function... something is missing. Nothing holds in the magazine.
I ordered the same exact lightweight thumbhole stock from boyds for a Steyr Pro Hunter II chambered in 308 Winchester. Had the same exact problem you have. The factory Steyr stock has an internal chassis that the magazine clips into. I measured with calipers and the Boyd's stock Magwell cut out is much larger than the magazine. Also there was a gap between the Rifle action and the points where the screws would hold the action in place.

I'm surprised at the problems you have been through - I installed a Boyd's stock on a .270 SBS Pro Hunter last fall and it was a straight drop-in with near perfect fit.

On the rear action screw, in the picture it looks like you were using the bolt from the original stock - Boyd's should have sent you a different (longer) bolt with a domed head (see the second picture posted by Mustyrabbit88).

The bigger problem is the gap between stock and the recoil lug - mine mated up nicely but yours looks like its a 1/4" away from making contact! Given how far it is from seating and also looking at the gap on the top rails it looks like the barrel or action was making contact somewhere in front of the recoil lug (it shouldn't!) which didn't allow it to fully seat. Did you try to figure out where it was making contact before you returned the stock to Boyds?
Boyd's did send me an additional action screw for the rear but it was not long enough. My original Steyr Pro Hunter 2 stock has an aluminum chassis embedded in it that the action attaches to. I think there in lies the difference with the Boyd's stock and the factory stock and getting the two to match up. You can see in the pictures I took of the magazine cut out it is definitely too wide on the Boyd's stock and there is nothing for the magazine to clip onto. The magazine on the Steyr stock clips into the aluminum chassis embedded in the factory stock . Boyds ended up giving me a full refund.
