As a nearly new (picking up the wifes M9a1 this weekend and thinking about getting one myself) owner, I was just wondering how the sales are going for these pistols? Are they going good enough that accessories and holsters are going to become easier to get? I certainly hope so as I've yet to find a gun that fits my hand as good as this one!! Thanks, odie072
I think it's a slow start but picking up steam. As folks handle them, they are becoming more and more popular.
When you shoot it, and if you like it, TALK IT UP, I enjoy shooting my M9A1 and like to promote its advanced designes. I talk mine up when ever I can, especially other shooting forums. Most people don't know about the Steyr. A few GREAT comments aimed at a inexpensive alternative to a glock or other plastic pistols will in many instances get a buyer to handle one, and buy one. The more Steyr shooters, the better for ALL of us!
If any weapon feels right in your hands...buy it and give it a try...don't worry about aftermarket items...because a good weapons won't need any modifications. I believe we live in a world of aftermarket...I didn't need to have my pistol slide hard chromed, but I wanted it for more protection...but the stock pistol works well out of the box. There are plenty of companies that offer holsters for the Steyr line. Don't get caught up in all the hype...for me it's the Glock..sure it's durable and has been time tested...however, Glocks are not for me. Buy what you are comfortable with and practice.
In the past Steyrs importers here have done NOTHING to promote this gun, I hope SAI does not follow the past importers. I think if some advertising dollars where spent it would take off. But since they seem to be hoping WE the owners will do it for them I would say not. Myself and friends bought them here about 8-9 yrs ago when they where ginving them away. I paid $320 out the door for my M40 . And they didn't sell well. And at near glock prices it won't help sales any. I've been telling steyr for years that their marketing skills lack their gun building skills , big time.
Steyr has been advertising the A1's. Shotgun news has had an ad as well as a few other gun rags. I've noticed an increase in questions about the Steyr on other gun boards. I think Steyr is going to get it together properly this time. They have assembled a team here in the US that is handling things. SAI is a wholly owned division of Steyr Mannlicher Austria. More and more Holster makers are getting on board and supporting the A1.
Regarding How Popular Folks, I hope Steyr's advertising gets the ball rolling. I mentioned to Jack that I'd like to help them with their marketing (20 years in the biz), but he didn't seem interested. That was too bad, I had some cool ideas on how to market the handguns at gun ranges for practically no money. Tancred
I can't wait to shoot it. I've owned rugers, glocks, cz, taurus and a fn hi-power. I thought nothing would feel as good in the hand as the hi-power did, but I was wrong. The natural "point" of the gun is awesome. If it shoots as good as I think it will, I will "talk it up". The aftermarket I was talking about was holsters, mag holders and sights. And yes, there are holsters out there, but most of them have a wait, unlike a glock that you can order just about anything for. Hopefully, I'll have a range report either Sat or Sun for you. Thanks odie072
lots of holsters availible tough to list all. not everybody jumping out and announcing it. most are original M series. MA1's are growing in numbers. wait depends on manufacture and backlog. custom sights availible from PT maybe other companies PT has been pretty good. 3 dot night sights availible from steyr as well. scope mount availible from IGB in Austria so are barrels MDWguns stocks some IGB gear. more though cannot remember it all. maybe guiderods from Jack Ashe Custom
Jack told me that Night sights will be available from Steyr shortly, he also said that Trijicon would have sights some time early next year. Holsters are the least of the problem (concealed carry) as several makers are coming on line. Duty holsters are needed so the firearm can get into the hands of LEO's, Once they land a contract or two things will really begin to move along.
What about magazine articles? Have any of the major gun mags tested it yet. The reason I'm asking all these questions is, when the wife and I went looking for her a carry handgun, we were looking at a couple of others and the shop owner asked if we had seen the Steyr. I couldn't say that I had, but when I handled it thats where it really shines. Thanks for all the replies. odie072
