Hmm... interesting. Are the Saigas modified that way like the WASR-10s were during the AWB so they could only accept certain mags, to seem more like "sporting" weapons?

Guess I'll just find a dealer in VA that carries Arsenal mags ;)
Yes, the Saigas are what one might call a wolf in sheeps clothing. They are AKs, and the finest Russian made. The stocks were changed and the mags limited to their own manufactured lower capacity ones. An entire market has sprung up around these guns. Some modify AK mags that are easily modifiable like the Wiegers, and others have created new mags, like the 20 rounders for the .308 and the ten rounders for the Saiga 12 gauge.

The problem is that it fooled no one in the gun grabber's camp, and my understanding is that the Saiga is specifically mentioned in the current pending gun grabbing legislation. A magazine fed shotgun was too juicy for them to resist especially when they had such a field day with the USAS-12 and the Streetsweeper last time.

With two of my Saigas, the .223 and .308, I have done easy legal modifications. My 20 gauge will remain stock.

yeah, if I had to get another shotgun it would definitely be a Saiga. Converting one of the rifles to an AK-lookalike would take a little too much work for me.. I'd rather just have it work the way I want out of the box, or build it from the ground up (just bought a stripped AR-15 lower today, for my first build :) ).

The scraper is used to clean out the carbon/slag from the gas chamber that the gas piston slide in. The P7 PSP does not typically come with a scraper -- but does come with a small metal tool for use as an aid in removing the firning pin bushing.

just got one of the police trade ins at a gun show yesterday, under 600.00 out the door. grade c but it looked better than the a and b ones i saw. trigger was the smoothest as well. only real wear is at the muzzle, i am sure if it did not have the excess wear there compared to the rest of the pistol it would be an a. low serial number too, 30XXX

my camera is crappy and i smudged out the serial number with software. better pics to come! gonna shoot it and the steyr today!

took it to the range today and it shoots pretty good. sights are dead on. but the steyr shoots much better. there is some muzzle flip from the p7, made me realize i am spoiled by the steyr. my friend who works at the range finally shot the steyr. his words were, "Wow. this thing is actually TOO smooth." he was amazed with the short reset, the low felt recoil and quick follow up. he liked the p7 also...

P7 Major Flaw!!!!

so i think I discovered one major flaw with the HK P7.

I recently purchased my first P7M8 online and was pleasantly surprised with the quality and general condition of the piece I received...

So nice, I didn't want to shoot it [much]... turned into a "safe queen"... [after about 20 rds...]

So, recently been eying some of the HK Reconditioned P7 PSP's on the market, and found one this weekend at the local gun show....

Box said it was a"B" unit, but sure was in great shape!

So when I got the guy down to $699 I forked over the cash and took my new baby home!!!

Off to the range today, and put about 200 rds through it.... NOT a SINGLE Malfunction....

and my-oh-my, what tight groups I had!!!!!

These things are phenomenal!!!

So, the flaw I mentioned????

Simple. Like Pringles Potato Chips, I don't think anyone can be satisfied with just one!!!!!

I am definitely gonna have to grab a couple more of these while the getting is good!

i sold my P7 that i got about a week ago to a friend.

when i called him he was hemming and hawing because he had heard about the grading but had not seen any examples. (mine was graded c). when i opened the box, he started smiling. after dry firing it, he remarked how the trigger was better than the p7m8 he already has. so he was well satisfied with it, and i walked to my new (to me) 500+ hp gto satisfied that i recouped part of my downpayment money and my steyr was satisfied cause she thought i was cheatin'! "Why do i go with you everywhere and she gets to stay in that box? I'm not as pretty, you love her more than me, huh?" I pat her clipped on my side and say, "Baby, you're the greatest!"

i need help... and millions of dollars to make things (more) interesting!

BTW, with the surplus PSPs the grading is not based on cosmetics. HK grades the gun based on wear and use as evidenced by the mechanical aspects of a gun. The cosmetic condition of the gun bears little if any influence on the grading.

Hey All!

I noticed that today the P7M8 fell off of the California approved list! It was there yesterday w/ a date of 9/10/07 as the cut off. HK had previously said that they would be renewing it for another year on the CA approved list, I guess they changed their minds.

All good stuff. That's what I like about you Steyr guys. "Connosieurs of Unusual and Wickedly Cool Pistols." Steyr's definitely made their share. I love my HKs and wish I could have them all but like Big Taco I don't have the change to throw around. Kids drain me. I do have one nice P7M8 (that I love like a son) with Robar NP3 finish I'll upload a pic when I can get a decent picture of it. I have Vista 64 and haven't had luck yet with digicam compatibility. I'll try to take one with the webcam on my notebook. But like Windows Media, that thing only works right when it wants to. KEEP THE P7 STRAND ALIVE! -'staub
