Grandfather Oak Holster for M9A1 arrived

I recieved my new Quick Companion holster made by Grandfather Oak, yesterday. I intend to use it for IDPA.
I'm VERY happy with the holster. For the money($35.00 w/S&H)) I can't imagine a better deal or Holster. I doubt if I spent more money I would recieve a holster that would out perform this holster,at least in my hands.

I asked for and recieved a straight drop belt loop holster. I now think I may have been better served by the available FBI cant model. When I practice drawing I seem to grab a piece of the rear slide of the Steyr M9A1 along with the grip. I don't have this problem with my other guns. I think that because the Steyr's slide runs longer behind the grip this is contributing to the problem. When I force the holster to approximate a FBI cant I seem to grab the Steyr's grip more easily.

Has any one experimented with the straight drop verses FBI forword cant designs when drawing the Steyr MA1 design?

To Grandfather Oaks credit, they offered to change the Holster to the FBI cant if I wanted. I will keep the straight drop and work with it. For there VERY reasonable cost ordering another Grand Father Oak holster with the FBI cant wouldn't be such a bad thing.

I just received a Grandfather Oak Quick Companion for my M9-A1 today. I ordered it on July 27, so the turn-around was about 6-7 weeks. It is an exceptional bargain at $35. I spent the last hour taking pictures of the holster and getting them transfered to the computer, only to realize I don't have anywhere to host the photos (I thought you just uploaded them). Anyway, I did upload one to the Photo Gallery, so take a look if you're looking to buy one.

Like armored, I got the straight drop. It has great retention. So good, in fact, that you have to pay attention to your draw stroke. It works great when you draw straight up to clear the holster, but doesn't want to let go otherwise. This is fine for me--it's what I'm used to with other kydex holsters used with Glocks. If you're not used to drawing straight up to clear the holster, you might consider the FBI cant.

The holster is not really suited for concealed carry--it doesn't hug your hip and it prints clearly. I got it for action pistol and 3-gun matches, so that's not an issue for me. Mine has the Tek-Lok attachment, which fits my 2-inch pistol belt perfectly with the spacer removed.

Overall, great purchase. Quality is excellent--I'll definitely buy from them again.

If you shoot IDPA you will find the Tek-Loc will not be legal in a major match. The belt loop model hugs the body and is legal, would also be a better chose if your concerned about concealment.

My Holster was TOO tight. I removed the adjustment screw and replaced it with a longer screw and a thicker rubber bushing. Works great now.
I ordered one about 6 weeks ago for my M40-A1. It was waiting for me in my mailbox when I returned from vacation this evening. Although I asked for an M40-A1 holster -- and the receipt accompanying it indicated such, the holster was for the older M-series pistol and will not fit the M40-A1.

I've emailed G.O. to see about an exchange -- hopefully, I will not have to wait an additional 6 weeks to get it...

Disappointed...

BUMMER!
I got mine a couple weeks ago, fit is nice, sometimes it binds, I dont know what is catching on it. It could be me. For 35 dollars shipped, you cant go wrong. I am very please with mine. They also did it custom for me, left-handed. David always returned my phone calls promptly, and always let me know what was going on. I would definitely recommend it, especially for the price.
They were at the Dulles Gun Show in Fairfax, VA this weekend and my friend ordered one. Astonishing for $35 delivered. Will see how good it is in the flesh when it arrives.
I sent mine back to get less retention for IDPA. And I got the tech-lok. Wish I hadn't, so it would be legal
My friend got his GO last week (3 months instead of 3 weeks), but it is an excellent holster. Will see how it holds up.
