Duh, I never knew G.I. Joe is a Marine. Always thought he was a soldier. And now I just learned that the "action figure" is based on a real-life Congressional Medal of Honor hero of Guadalcanal, the god-forsaken island in the Pacific where a handful of starving, hungry Marines turned the tide against swarming hordes of well-fed soldiers from Japan in the dark, early days of WWII. The changing look of G.I. Joe, from introduction in 1964 to the present. His face is that of the late Marine Col. Mitchell Paige. And now, as Paul Harvey would say, for the rest of the story. Hollywood is making a G.I. Joe movie. And guess what the "always a Marine" hero will be called? Hasbro seems to have forgotten its G.I. Joe promise to Paige. And Hollywood wonders why nobody wants to watch their movies anymore? If you can stand it, here's the whole story.
