Hello, I allready broke one firing pin, not looking forward to breaking another. what can be done to eliminate the pin drag on the primers. Is it a recoil spring issue? a striker spring issue? firing pin too long? Slide lube? This is for the M9A1 ... ive allready got an updated extractor, bt guiderod and spring and delrin clip. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Im not affected by the recal, i have a 20008 canadian model with a 5 digit serial#. how can i slow my cycle rate down cause it seems like the pin is stil indented in the case as the extraction occurs ... Or maybe the pin is just to long. Every spent case has a drag mark on it deepest from the center out.
Viscosity on the slide rails. I use Brian Enos' SlideGlide. Some people use STP Oil Treatment. It just needs to give a little viscous drag. The difference between viscous drag and plain friction is that viscous drag is velocity dependent, while friction is, with few exceptions, velocity independent. Viscous drag is not a linear function of velocity, but more complicated. You don't need a formula, just no more primer drag marks.
By the way, case dents also come from cycling the slide before the case clears the chamber.
I was under the assumption that those marks are called Steyr teardrops or something like that. I am new to shooting and Steyr but that was what I was told. I have been having the exact opposite issue with my M40. Not striking the round hard enough.
My new S40-A1 does the same thing and places a little dent midway up the cartridge. I had many FTF's on the first 100 rounds as I posted on another thread and hope all this will go away before I go broke on ammo.
i have three steyr m9s. NONE of mine do that at all. maybe too long of firing pin, maybe weak recoil spring. maybe unlocking too early for some reason. that is NOT right needs lookin into. if you send it to steyr i would demand they fix it or better yet replace it.
I think what happens is the case hits the firing pin in it's way out of the chamber. The culprit might be:
1. Weak recoil spring or
2. The striker spring does not compress fast enough (too strong) after it hits the primer.
Just a guess.
