Just took my M40 apart and cleaned it tonight. After putting it back together, I noticed that the firing pin felt "loose" after I slide the plastic end piece back into place.

Is this normal??? I don't recall this being like this before. Anyone??

I'm not a Steyr gunsmith, but yep there is a little bit of play in the firing pin... I think about 1/8"+, is normal.

Could you possibly expound on your definition of "loose" a bit more? How much play is there? Did it all seem to go back together well?

Yep - it's normal - it should move back and fourth with just finger pressure.

Steyrs have no slide firing pin safety - so don't panic. When you cleaned it out - you took the packing grease out, loosening up the pin.

Cool - thanks, I was just worried because when I press it forward the tip barely protrudes into the chamber slightly.

That had me concerned, however if it is normal I am not concerned.
