Steyr Mannlicher phoned me from Austria today.

We were discussing spare parts issues, etc...

The extractors and extractor springs on certain "Early" model pistols (I do not know how "Early" is defined") were fitted with "weak" extractor springs that caused problems.

The new replacement parts have been upgraded and come with a stronger spring and a new extractor.

Keep this in mind. I am going to order one for my M9 just to be sure. I don't know when they made the change at the factory, in terms of serial numbers or production dates. I will try and find out.

Nice work, friend!

I'm willing to bet that the few people who have had frustration with extraction issues owe their malfunctions to this older design extractor.

Excellent information - hopefully you can get the serial number range pinned down, so we can offer up some REAL solutions for anyone having problems. And with any luck, Steyr will take care of any gun within the "bad" serial range, and send out the updated extractor assembly free of charge. I'm betting they will indeed take care of the unlucky ones. Although they have had business problems, it seems as though they try hard to do right by their loyal customers.

I've never had any issues with mine. But making sure I am outside the serial range for the weak extractors will give me even more peace of mind.

Looking forward to updates, Mr. Ambassador. :)
