DFW: Whiskey! (Next Get Together)

7327 Views 33 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  JaegerWulf
I know it's early, as we just concluded our last get together. But I wanted to get some information out. I figured we wouldn't worry about going to the range this time, as it will give us a chance to save some money. Figured we could get together and talk. Whiskey and Firearms happen to be two of my favorite subjects (falling closely behind women!). Trinity Hall Irish Pub ( www.trinityhall.tv ) is a wonderful place to sit, drink, and talk. It's located at Mockingbird Station (Mockingbird Ln and 75 -Central-).

They have the greatest beer selection short of The Flying Saucer and the widest selection of Whiskey (Canadian and Scotch Whisky, and Kentucky / Tennessee Bourbons, etc.) in the Dallas / Fort Worth area.

The second Tuesday of every month they have a Whiskey tasting. Usually its a flight of Scotch (I went to a McAllen tasting that had 6 different McCallens, on up to the 20 yr and beyond!). If you reserve a spot it only costs 25 dollars! (35 dollars for a walk in if there is space). The evening lasts a bit and they usually have a representative come in and discuss the scotch while you drink it. Everyone gets pretty happy at the end of the night, needless to say.

I sent an email to Marius Donnelly, the proprietor, letting him know how much I loved the place and my intentions to bring you guys over. He said he looked forward to all you stopping by.

Check out the website (its a jumbled mess, but has good information in it) and let me know what you guys think.

Do you guys want to shoot for the January tasting, or wait until February or beyond? I'm not sure what the whiskey schedule is just yet, but I'll post it once it's on their website.

Subject: Comments and Questions

Dear Sir!

I am a die-hard regular to your Pub (regular meaning when I get the money, so once a month or so!) and have been enjoying your place since I got back from Iraq (a little over two years ago). My wife has been attending your pub for even longer. It was in your pub that I first was exposed to Scotch (I had been a straight bourbon drinker before that) and learned to appreciate it. It was also on your recommendation that I drank my first Talisker and have been in love with that whisky ever since. Furthermore, I took my younger sister to Trinity hall for her 21st birthday and have brought my entire family (both mine and my inlaws) there on special occasions. All in all, it is a special place to me and my friends and family and I wanted to say thank you to you and your staff for all that you do.

I have attended one of your Whiskey tastings (McAllen) and look forward to attending many others. I am apart of the DFW Steyr pistol club and we plan on attending one of your next tastings (without our beloved Steyrs, of course!). Whatever whiskey may be selected, we look forward to it and will enjoy it. I did want to know, however, if you will be doing a Talisker sampling in the near future?

I would go on and on about how much I love your pub, but the flattery would appear saccharine after a while. So with that, have a Merry Christmas and I hope to stop by soon!

-Jim

================

Go Raibh Maith Agat Seamus!

Thank you very much for your kind note Jim, it certainly warms the heart to have a place that we are proud of generate unsolicited notes such as yours. Thank you for taking time to let me know and for all your business over the years. We shall look forward to seeing you and yours with us again soon, and if you don’t have plans yet for the early part of New Year’s Eve I’d ask that you consider bringing the family along to our Sing Along and Irish New Years countdown 3-6 PM. The Irish Rogues play and its mostly families, grandparents & the youngest ones. We bring out sparkling cider for the countdown and the kids have blowers & noisemakers! And then everyone’s home by 7 or 8P

I’ll review the list of upcoming tastings and be sure that it is up to the quality that should be expected when half the attendees are marksmen….. We should have the 1 st quarter ready to post here shortly with the first tasting of the year scheduled for Jan 13th. Keep an eye on the tasting page for details!

Have a Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year to all!

Slainte!

I'll be going of course. And my wife is coming again (though she won't be drinking, alas, surgery...). I say bring the wimenz, no sense making this a sausage fest. Up to you guys though. I like boobies and take every chance I can to look at em. My wife has always been "on of the guys" though, so not sure if you want this to be a male bonding experience.

My philosophy has always been whiskey and women go together. So, I say, bring the wives... and the girlfriends... and any women you have on the side.

Sounds good to me...
Sounds good to me...

Yeah, Me too!

Do they deliver?

It's up in the air for me right now... I was laid up in bed all weekend with a fever and I feel like I got ran over by a truck today. If things don't pick up by tomorrow, I don't think I'll be in any condition to drink :(. Sucks that they had to knock it back a week...
well maybe we should call it off then until next month?

hey JW, have you received any pm's from anyone else planning to attend? I scrolled through the thread and it sounds like this was going to be a small group this time out. maybe more can make it next time
Up to you guys... I can try to soldier through tomorrow, but no promises and it's not looking good at this point :(
No PMs from anyone else yet. Though I wasn't as active getting PMs out to everyone (relied on the thread... hmm..)

Well, things still on for tomorrow. I'm going to head over. Syntax, it's not hard drinking, but good drinking. Even if its just us three, it'll be fun. It'll also give you an idea of what it is and let you know if you want to keep doing it.

If you are going, send an email to [email protected] and let them know you are going. You will pay the 25 dollars when you get there. send me a PM so that I can save a seat for us all.
I did'nt realize it was a cost get together. I totally misread the description of what we were doing tommorow..lol

I have literally spent my every last penny on ammo, stock piling up this weekend and also I bought a Remington 870 Tactical with tons of accessories. I will be out of this event, sorry guys.

Hope you fell better soon Syn.....:(
:( Is alright. These things go on every month (though they've had a weird schedule since the new year... should even out). We'll see how those that go like it and plan for more.
Tasting went well last night. Their new schedule has the tastings on the first Tuesday on every month. Next month is going to be an Irish whiskey tasting. Bushmills and Breakfast! Apparently we're going to sample the Irish whiskey next to some Irish breakfast meals.

I'm psyched! Bushmills is a wonderful whiskey and the Irish do it a bit different than the Scotts and the Americans. This will be good. I'll get out PMs a lot earlier this time and make a new thread about it. Again, its 25 dollars when you send in an email. That gets you 6 whiskeys (typically) and they usually do a bonus round. I went home very happy last night....

Oh yeah, Range Report:
Had samples of these whiskys:

Buchanan's Black and White
Johnnie Walker Green Label
Buchanan's 18 yr Blended Whisky
Buchanan's Red Seal (a $180 a bottle whisky)
Dalwhinnie 12 year Single Malt

And the bonus round was a Singleton 12 yr. Single Malt

They also served cheese and crackers as pallet cleansers, rolled deli meat wraps, crisp potato bites, toasted crustinis as appetizers, and a small pineapple and shrimp kabob as a taste enhancer.

Because there was a whisky tasting just last week, not too many people showed up for this one (only had two tables of 6 to 9 people each). It was really nice. The ambassador was able to walk up and town and talk with each one of us individually as we were drinking. Hell, him and the pub owner seemed to be drinking just as much as us. Damned good night. Got home and passed out on the bed.

Next month is going to be even better.
