Desert Brutality 2021

4155 Views 11 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Jack
Hey guys,
Looks like DB2021 will be going ahead in November instead of the normal super bowl weekend. This year it’s up in Utah. Wanted to see if anyone else was going? This is the inrange tv event they have been doing for a couple years although the also have been going to winter brutality in Finland. I believe they were also starting woodland brutality over on the east side of the states and a northern one as well, but those 2 are canceled this year. Wanted to check if anyone here was going to the November match in Utah? Depending on the actual dates I plan to go up.

Hey,
DB is desert brutality a 2 gun match run by inrange tv. Typically 5 to 8 stages of shooting depending on the year with a pistol and rifle with some challenges mixed in. Check out inrange tv on YouTube for videos. Currently they have 6 divisions over 2 days. These run from bolt actions to aks to modern rifles to gear setups like armored. Matches in the past typically involve somthing physical such as tire flips, 1/4 mile runs in gear, climbing a storage container, shooting around a riot style shield, kettle bell throws, etc.. mixed in with shooting from 15-300 yards. Targets are typically steel, cardboard silhouettes, spinners, and Texas stars. So for instance one match you started in a truck cab, engaged targets, Grounded your rifle, got into the bed of the truck and cut a rope on a kettle bell, then every time you threw the kettle bell down range engaged two targets and kept doing so still the kettle bell crossed the line. I think it was 35 pound bell. Another was tuning through tires in and crawling under some tank traps, engaging targets with a rifle and ending with a pistol spinner.

I'll be going in Forward Observer (Spectator/Non-Participant) class. I am very excited to watch my first 2Gun match. I just need a date and a place since I'll be coming all the way from Chicago.

From what I hear it’s going to be Utah this year around November, but everything is subject to change. I am with you waiting on a date to make sure I can pull it with work. If I can do it and you need a place let me know, I’m going to haul my trailer up there to sleep in. Also if want to compete and just don’t have the gear let me know. I have plenty of back ups.
I may take you up on the trailer thing, let's see how that goes, I'll have to rent a car from the airport probably. On the participation side, while I appreciate it since I do not have the gear, I also do not have a FOID card or anything to the effect and I seriously doubt Karl would appreciate me using this as my (as previously mentioned) first 2Gun Match. I would want more practice.

I'll keep an eye on this thread, but is there a way to friend you or something so we can keep updated?

Hey, I can always give you a ride. Although I still need to clear the date with work, which is the tricky side since the last one was Thursday to Sunday depending on the division. I am hoping he nails down the date soon. At the events there isn’t any requirements to show to shoot. As far as AZ is concerned you just can’t be a felon and I’m pretty sure getting in the same squad would probably be a non issue. In the last one Ak/classic/retro were Thursday / Friday and the rest was Sat/Sun. I ran Ak since my buddy was running retro. I’ll PM you my cellphone/email. I probably need to login to the discord again to catch the date but haven’t done that yet.

Looks like it’s opened up for joining. November 20-21st sat/sun with some changes to the divisions. You can join if you are patreon even if you join now so if interested you might want to join up before it goes public and the slots are all gone. That said you cannot squad until they approve you. divisions are partizan (open mixed with limited) Cold War(anything prior 1991), classic (before 1946), and armored plus(body armor and helmet).
Yeah, that feels about right for my timing. I am really happy that there's a date even though it's too late to join as anything except Forward Observer. I never got anything done about getting in some range time, so probably not the worst thing ever. I'm gonna look at flights right now for getting out there.

Looks like there are 16 shooter spots still open if anyone is still on the fence about going. I think I’m going partisan or armored due to my Daewoo being disqualified for Cold War division and losing a bid war on a dp51 pistol, also this year you may need a dmr with your rifle and pistol. If you are Interested the round count is with 40 dmr, 80 pistol, and 120 rifle. Still deciding on primary vs backup between mdrx and aug. also for the east coasters I believe woodland brutality is on for next year although hosting site may change it was going to be east coast.
