I know this topic has been discussed to death at various other forums, but I'm looking for M9 specific thoughts/experiences. I've pretty much got it narrowed down to Gold Dots in either 124 gr +p or 147 gr standard pressure, but can be swayed to other brands/loads if the evidence is convincing. What experiences have you guys had?

gold dots are popular.

have you checked out the winchester ranger sxt? cdnn carries them if you have trouble finding them locally. they are basically the black talon bullet design with a fierce looking jacket. a lot of area leos are going with them. they look gnarly when they deform, expanding beyond one caliber.

the thing that stinks about finding carry ammo is blowing money through your gun making sure they function 100%. i know a guy who won't carry any ammo/gun combo until he has put 1000 rounds through without a malfunction. $$$$ especially if you have a malf at number 917. i don't go to that extreme, but i did fire several boxes of expensive crap being sure.

I won't try to steer you away from the gold dots, but I will strongly reccomend sticking to a lighter bullet. 115 or 124gr are a better option IMHO. 147gr bullets in 9mm have considerably slower velocities which can translate into poor expansion and/or poor penetration (though probably not both in any given situation, since they would seem to contradict eachother).

Light, fast projectiles tend to have equal or higher energy than slower heavier ones and through proper expansion, will transfer more of that energy into their target. Every ounce of energy that exits the back of your target is wasted energy and a potential lawsuit.

I didn't realize CDNN had 9mm in Ranger.......I thought they only had 40cal. Darn, wanted some of those......I use Gold Dots 124's. My friend really likes his 115 silver tips and thinks thats the best weight for the 9mm. I'll stick to the 124's in any quality brand......
