Just got off the phone with them
We struck a deal

Comp-tac will be able to make holsters for the M series, and probably the S series without needing to borrow a gun

I am going to see them tomorrow

I will be ordering a few other holsters from them also.

EXCELLENT!

I'm hoping they can create the CTAC holster much like jng's:

In particular, I like the idea of the body guard shown here on the rear of the holster. Hopefully this feature will be included or an option.

You da' man, madecov - thanks for the efforts.

Madecov, you da' man! =D> \:D/

I guess I'd better start saving my pennies....

Let us know if they give you a time frame when they'll be ramping up production -- I bet they'll get a bunch of orders!

Awesome - you guys are going to LOVE that holster!

Ok
Went over and met with them today
They now have an actual deactivated M40

They say the slide on the M9 is a tiny bit thinner so they are not sure about making stuff for the M9

I can't imagine that it would be that great a difference. Tension screw adjustment will probably make up the difference.

I'll have my Comp-tac holster next week :)

Cool, please report your experience with the holster so people don't think I work for them!

Maybe someone who owns both a 9 and a 40 can mic the difference so we can see if the tension adjustment would compensate.

Jeff
Maybe our other Houston member has an M9?

If so, maybe he could check the fit for us....

You guys are going to love this...

I was looking at my C-T.A.C. holster tonight, and on the inside I saw engraved by hand "Steyr M-40". It looks as if it was most likely done by the factory. As I said, my S9 fits PERFECTLY. The holster secures the gun by the trigger guard (this causes the click as the front of the trigger guard goes past the necked-down area of the holster) and there is NO play when the gun is seated.

I'm thinking it's perfect, but I still suggest someone using Vernier calipers to see the difference in dimensions between M/S9 and M/S40.

Damn right - I certainly do!

I always thought the stamp (M9, M40, etc...) was the only difference. I was under the impression that the slides were identical.

Regardless, that IS good news, Jeff.

Ditto. anyone w/ both handy?
I'm not sure my M40 and S0 will be a fair comparison as there are two variable in there. But I thought stamping, muzzle size and length were the only differences between all 5 originals.
Greg, the owner of Comp-tac came out of the back and miced the M40. he said it was wider than he thought the M9 was.

In any event, they have an actual gun!!!!!

get your orders in, very nice stuff. I have 3 different holsters for three guns being made. even one in the chain mail finish.

I took a picture of the hand carved "Steyr M-40" on the inside of the holster:

More good news, boys.

I was at the range today, and noticed a guy a few stalls down whip out a Steyr pistol case. Of course, my M9, S9, and I had to go over to investigate.

He was shooting an M40, and I duly asked him if I could compare the slides.

We looked at 'em side-by-side, and if there is any width difference, it's not visible to the naked eye. Maybe with calipers, but nothing that small will have any effect on a holster.

Nice guy, too - he says he's had trouble getting on this site for some reason, but that he's a regular lurker over on SteyrTalk. Said he recognized my screen name, too.

Anyway - I see NO reason an M40 holster will not fit an M9 perfectly.

And Paul - hope you are able to get on this site soon, man. It was nice meeting you.

Ordered my CTAC today - should be here next week sometime.

Very good people over at CompTac. Extremely helpful. They even warned me about the possible M40/M9 size difference, but they trust when I told them it'll be fine.

I plan on reporting my results to them when I get the holster, so they can be sure that it will in fact work with the M9 also.

Good company to deal with. Thanks again for everyone's efforts & info. Hopefully this will be the rig I've been looking for.

Do you think they make a S40 holster? The one I have from Uncle Mikes is alright it come with an extra magazine holder which is really the only cool thing about it.. I need a good holster.

If you scroll back up and look at the picture posted by Hihoslva, that is my S9 in a Comp-Tac C-T.A.C. holster originally designed for an M40. So if an S9 fits in the hoslter designed for an M40, I'm inclined to think that the S40 would fit as well.

comp-tac makes what they call "slides" for different length barrels/slides on the same frame.

order any "slide: for a M and is should fit the S or M, it will just have an open end.

FlaChef is correct, but personally I don't like slides. I used to use a Galco Yaqui slide with my 1911, and I found that the front sight can snag on the leather during the draw. You end up either struggling with the draw or even drawing with a piece of leather on the front sight (not a problem with Kydex.

My S9 fits perfectly in the Comp-Tac Kydex holster for the M40. There is just a half-inch or so of space left. The holster retains the gun by the trigger guard, so not a problem at all.
