Clicking or clunking when going up stairs?

Hi all,

I finally applied for my CCW, and while I'm waiting for it to arrive, I figured I'd practice carrying around the house to get used to the feeling.

As I was finishing up downstairs, I heard the phone ring upstairs. I trotted up the stairs and noticed a "click, click, click" coming from my M40-A1. When I got off the phone, I went back down stairs and noticed the same noise again.

Upon further investigation, it seems like the pistol makes the noise ONLY when there's a round in the chamber and the muzzle is pointed down. When you jostle the pistol up and down, there is a loud "click" or "clunk" that comes from the weapon (like a loose part). It doesn't make the noise when the weapon is empty, or when the magazine is out, so I'm thinking it's an internal safety or something.

Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a solution? Do I just need to live with it? To be honest, it's really loud (to me) and has me reconsidering the A1 as a carry pistol.

Thoughts?

No one will notice it and if they do, they won't think anything of it. I want to say a few other people have reported this before and the magazine was the source of the clicking. Are you using a 15 or 17 rounder?
It's the factory twelve round mags for the .40. I thought it might be the mag, but I couldn't figure out how it would make that sound.

Thanks for the reply!
That's actually a pretty common annoyance with a lot of guns - I used to have a H&K USPc .45 that used to rattle like a Maraca until I got Wolff replacement springs for it.
Glad to know it's not just me. I imagine there's a lot of little things I'll learn as I carry more often.
Update: I'm a little closer to discovering the cause, and your magazine comment was spot on. When I load the mag with 10+1 the clicking is completely gone. 11+1 = clicking

It must be the way the rounds are stacked, allowing one bullet to rattle around when the magazine is in the gun with only 11 rounds.
