Ok, so short story, bought an SSG 69 off a guy I shoot with. He swore it was an SSG 69 P1 chambered in 7.62x51 NATO.
Upon trawling through the various posts on this forum, I'm actually now believing its actually a P2 chambered in .308 Win.
I cant find any solid information on what the various barrel types look like. This rifle has a black synthetic stock with a sling attachment point in the stock, the heavy bolt, but a tapered barrel, not a straight one, tapering from 24.2mm at the receiver to 21.2mm at the muzzle. So I believe a heavy barrel? Even though its not straight? It doesnt have any form of iron sights and just the built in rail.
As per the pictures, despite the receiver being only marked "P", I actually believe this is a PII in 308 win not a PI in 7.62x51 (Am assuming thats what the "2" on the bottom of the barrel and receiver is?). I have been unable to verify how the 7.62x51 rifles are actually marked to confirm if they are actually marked on the barrel as 7.62x51...
Can anyone either confirm or disprove my theory please?
P.S. as far as I can tell, the AKAH is a german dealer mark., Oh and the 5 shot rotary magazine clearly has 308 Win stamped on it.
Thanks in advance.
