Interesting detail buried in a press release about an annual celebration:
Jägerbataillon 25 (one of the proof-of-concept "professional" formations with no conscripts) will be equipped with a modernized AUG variant.
The single image appears to show an A3 SF.
The text mentions a short barrel, "modern laser-light-equipment," and a number of approx. 530 guns.

Check the second photo from the bottom - can anybody identify the thing on the top rail?

And for completeness' sake, Steyr's product page for the AUG A3 SF: http://www.steyr-mannlicher.com/behoerdenwaffen/steyr-aug-a3-sf/

the article doesnt show any pics for me but Steyr's Austrian and US page does have a pdf on the Aug A3 SF and says the device on top is a red dot scope. I am dissapointed the SF only has a 1.5x magnification. I like the look of the A3 SF nice rails.

I am certain it is an Aimpoint Comp M3. Zero magnification. What I used until I went to the Aimpoint micro, putting it at the front of the rail.

Yeah the photo of the rifle held by the Austrian officer is fitted with an aimpoint sight. The small item attached in the profile picture is the Steyr red dot sight.
I've used these for nearly 20 years and the 1.5 magnification is adequate. A good field of view and intuitive ranging for man size out to 300 metres.

    Take care,
