I am looking for a strong side hip holster to conceal my S40. I can order the kydex one made for a S40, or have a local shop's (Sullivan's) master leathersmith make me a custom one. Kydex Vs tailored leather? I haven't carried before so what are your opinions? How about a holster for spare magazines? Any info on this would help me out.

Thanks,

Nick

If you have someone you can go to that makes quality rigs DO IT!

The rest of us buy off the net and while we get some great holsters there is always a little "will this cut/style work with my body type to conceal this particular gun?"

It would be like buying a tailored suit compared to one off the rack.

Kydex or leather I don't see too much difference. Yes leather is more comfy and kydex is faster, just doesn't seem like the difference IMHO is as much as people make it out to be.

Ok thanks for the opinion and info. I am going to get a leather one made, after my turn comes up on the waiting list... If I need that extra fraction of a second kydex offers in a real life quick draw situation 8O I think it won't matter since I will be drawing as I run away. I would hope to be out of the holster already if I anticipated a suprise like that.
