I have a basket case, a 1908 Steyr Pieper Pistol with a 4 digit serial number. Chances are its one of the first production models. So parts are almost not available for the 1908,1909 model, I have a lot of parts for this firearm, however I am at a loss for the assembly of the barrel latch spring assembly. The ones I've seen is a screw with two springs one is for the trigger and one is for the barrel latch. This one is a spring for the trigger, no screw. o_O

Mine is this one, I don't have the barrel latch, or its retainer.

Another interesting note is that it says FIRE on the safety, since it was made not in the US, I would say that it should be written in German.

The low serial number is 5454 and that has to be the first ones made.

The other interesting fact is that it doesn't have the stamps like other ones I've seen, and no date stamped.

I have mostly everything I need, I picked up some parts that were missing, trying to figure out my options.
I have a couple of parts coming in, as you can tell one is broken, I'm missing the correct thumb magazine latch assembly.

Overall, its all their, just a couple of questions needed answered. :)

The other thing is the grips, did they have wooden grips? All I've seen are plastic and these smell like wood.

I've studied the 1908, 1909 frame evolution and their is three distinct frames used like a evolution.

This one is like mine the frame is the first model, the trigger bar, disconnecter are the first model, the others are different, frame is cut different at the sear, trigger bar, the trigger bar is different where it activates the sear.

Really, nothing different, just a bit of fit and finish on replacement parts, they are mostly interchangeable.

What the factory updated on the trigger spring and the barrel latch spring was simply drill and tap a M3-0.5 screw using a #40 drill, I doubt that this update was ever even noticed by collectors.

The trigger and barrel latch had a flat spot milled for the spring.

You must have the cross pin for the Hammer so it will not over travel.

The barrel release snaps closed with ease, I had to clean up some parts.

I have a issue, the rear lug was broken, this first run upper frame will not accept the later model upper frames. Anyone had a problem and found a solution.

I was able to fit and finish the part to the pistol, it came out excellent. Time to cycle the pistol and see if it's going to eject the casings.
