I just wanted to quickly introduce myself as I have recently joined.
Hi, I'm KC from Albuquerque.

I joined SteyrClub when I recently purchased an M9-A1. I had the good fortune of trying an M9-A1 out at the range along side a Beretta 9mm Special, Springfield XD and Glock. After trying each one with my large group of shooters that day I kept going back to the Steyr. The sights, the lack of recoil (comparatively), the quick field strip... I was in love.

I've had guns around since I was a little girl. Growing up in the boondocks of Louisiana you really don't have a choice. My dad had a Smith and Wesson revolver in his night stand drawer that I remember finding when I was about 4. The local boys went out hunting regularly and when you live a good 45 min drive from the nearest police station, even the women have pump action bb guns at the least behind the door. However, what makes this purchase different is this gun was going to be all mine. Sure, since I'd been around guns my whole life and shot a fair few of them I didn't consider myself a "new" gun owner... but at the same time I am. This is my first gun that has my name on the registration.

I choose the Steyr after that first trip with it to the range and I was genuinely excited when I finally got my own. Unfortunately that ardor cooled at the first trip to the range to try it out. I was having multiple and frequent FTE's. That first trip with my M9-A1 I chalked up to the magazine, only one of the two mags I had was giving me the FTE's, so I marked it as bad. I ordered two new factory mags and went back out to the range a few weeks later.

1 FTE out of ever 5 shots, at minimum.

Frustrating!!

I contacted Steyr with a note about the FTE, hoping that there was something that could be done. And almost as soon as I hit the submit button on their website, I remembered this forum.
After a quick search I discovered I was by far not the only M9-A1 owner with this issue, and that in fact it was pretty damn common. Much to my relief my issue seems to be the old style extractor and I received word from Steyr that the new extractor is on it's way. I'm crossing my fingers that the new extractor brings my M9-A1 up to par with the reliability of my buddy's (he's shot over 4k rounds through it with not one single jam).

Thank you all for making this forum so great. You've helped this reader out of a particularly frustrating spot by just doing what you do.

I took it out and put about 100 round threw it and instantly fell in love. I was intending to sell the pistol, but it shoots much better than my glock so I think I'm going to carry it. Any thoughts on holsters, griptape, ammo and attatchment rails would be welcomed.
